A new system?

I lost my speeding ticket virginity 3 days ago. I was way over the limit and this wasn't my first time speeding. Hence when the lady officer pulled me over, I didn't contest it - I had no grounds to contest it. Sigh :( This has made me a better driver. I notice my speed more and honestly I don't feel the need to speed as much. I guess my luck ran out since while driving on roads with no vehicles in sight, at times I didn't realize how much over the speed limit I was. Big mistake.

The previous evening I was advocating a new system with my friends. If you follow the rules of the road (applies in the case where one doesn't get caught breaking the rules), you should accumulate points and hence points on your driving record would be a good thing.

I can hear the skeptics out there, how would this change anything? Think about it..... the higher your score, the safer a driver you are. Every year you get extra points for driving well, like an annual bonus and compound interest. Your Auto insurance company would then have to reduce your Insurance, because you're less likely to drive recklessly.

The flip side is any violations will subtract points, and hence you could end up with a negative score, increasing your insurance rates just like the contemporary system.

The devil's advocate in the car reminded me that one is expected to follow the rules. I say why not. If we can get penalized for bad driving, why not get rewarded for doing a good job?
